- Best website to get a free VIN check? : r whatcarshouldIbuy - Reddit
Always do your own due diligence when making large purchases, even if you have to pay a little extra You'll be surprised what you find on non "carfax" vin lookups carfax is absolute garbage Not sure about autocheck, but if the dealers use it, I would always use an independent paid VIN lookup service in addition to whatever the dealer claims
- Is Carfax actually good for anything? : r cars - Reddit
Carfax is a helpful tool, but it is not the be-all end-all of car history Heck, I've seen reports where a guy bought a car with a clean report, only to be notified later that the report they bought had been updated with an accident Carfax has to rely on reporting from insurance, police, and state DMVs for information

Carfax is the only service that actually tells you the actual vehicle history I came across this post because I was also looking for a cheaper or free alternative to looking up vin numbers I check all of the ones reccomended here and they all suck
- Best Vin Check site? : r askcarsales - Reddit
The most important things to look for on a VIN report are going to be title status (like if it is salvage, total loss, etc) I've seen plenty of vehicles with "clean" histories that have been in major accidents, and I've seen vehicles with accident histories where the damage was just a minor dent or scrape
- Is there a way to get a free CarFax? : r UsedCars - Reddit
First you have to find a carfax report of any other car Now if you look closely at the url of that repot then you’ll see it has vin number put in the url It will be in format of vin=1234 So now you have to replace that vin with your number And make sure there is only vin value and remove other if there is anything else
- Is Carfaxs report better than its competitors? : r askcarsales - Reddit
If you google "VIN look up" you get many links offering to run reports for much cheaper One even offered a dollar trial for the first 7 days that includes up to 50 searches For a dollar, it is worth my curiosity but I don't know what I am looking for and I haven't used carfax to know if their search is more in-depth than others
- Vinaudit vs Carfax : r askcarsales - Reddit
CarFax caught the issue and the seller was transparent about what happened (and it was advertised at 280k miles, so it's not like the rollback will change the value drastically) Overall I'm happy that I bought it - I used the CarFax + PPI to haggle the price down a bit
