Hello! I'm trying to clean up the fiber bundle on an old fiberstars system The terminus looks like the picture below Does that look wrong? It almost looks and feels like a glob of melted glass I'd love any recommendations on how to proceed with cleaning this up

Is it the valve not opening? I pulled the plug on top of the valve and the gas comes out I then tried to bottom plug with 27volts (scooter charger) on the gas valve (hear it click) and nothing comes out Is that a valid test indicating bad gas valve? Valve is $300 pus install so I don't want to waste my time and money on this 10 year old heater erroneously

I came home today to find that they'd laid what appears to be a normal rubber garden hose instead of a typical 3 4 or 1 inch pvc pipe like I expected down in the trench My PB is saying that "goodyear rubber" is okay for direct burial and that its preferred to pvc for long runs because its less likely to break I understand the flexibility may help and all, but it just seems to go against
