the first homes in hoyt lakes were built in 1954 and in 1955 the residents of hoyt lakes decided to have a city picnic. this became an annual event and grew bigger each year as the town grew. the colby lake water ski club was formed and the members put on a spectacular water ski show at the picnic and it was at that time that the event was renamed the hoyt lakes water carnival. it is held this year, 2006, from july 21st though 23rd.
